It's been another really weird week. My boss took the week off (and I of course had this unbearable urge to rearrange the furniture- but I very admirably restrained myself- okay, the truth is most of our furniture weighs a ton and would have required a forklift to move), but I did manage to weed and shift the one whole section of books to their new home. And Oh my god,I think I was attacked by Vampire Dust Bunnies- they were huge! So if you hear a news story about rampaging dust bunnies- you heard it here first.
But now onto my snippet.
I have a confession to make: when I started posting this story I thought I was much farther along than this but when I pulled it up from my travel flash drive (as opposed to the two that stay home and are strictly back ups) this was the last section on file. I've decided to post it anyway, I'll just have to write more in order to post more(oh god, this might not work), if nothing else it will make me write more this week (right?). Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.
Despite the delays, it was still early morning when the wagon drew out of the farmyard and onto the road that led out of town. The only people out and about were farmers bringing their produce into market and a few revelers staggering back to their beds. Adhara was amused to recognize some of those revelers as fellow Traders, not all from her ship.
They were just passing under the town’s outer wall when a voice shouted Adhara’s name, and hard upon it came the sound of a running horse. “Adhara!” the shout came again, “Wait up! I’ve brought lunch!” Adhara pulled the wagon to the side of the road, scarcely more than a track once past the wall, and waited.
“There you are!” the cheerful voice exclaimed, “Beryl sent me to catch up with you. She thought you two might need some lunch.”
“And you’re doing courier duty now?” Adhara asked skeptically, as the handsome young man on the spirited blue roan rode up beside the wagon, easily keeping pace as Adhara started the two horses on a nice easy walk.
“Don’t be daft,” the blue eyes twinkled in amusement, “But there isn’t much I wouldn’t do for a chance to take Mist out for a ride.”
“She is a beauty,” Adhara said, examining the young mare prancing daintily through the wet grass on the verge.
“Speaking of beauty,” he replied with a grin, “Aren’t you going to introduce me?”
“I probably shouldn’t, nothing good can come of it.” Adhara shook her head, secretly fearing that the beautiful woman beside her would take one look at him and fall madly in love with the dashing young man, who just happened to be an officer in the Royal Navy, and a good friend, “But I guess you won’t feed us if I don’t. Selene, this is Campion from the Navy ship Invictus. Campion, this is Selene, Farmer Tobias’ daughter.”
“See that wasn’t so hard, was it? So, where are you two headed this fine morning?” Campion asked, grinning as Adhara glared at him, he knew she was not a morning person and had looked forward to shore leave and the chance to sleep in, undisturbed by the ship’s bells.
“We’re going to Tobias’ home farm,” Adhara said. “Picking up supplies for the ship.”

Good intro. :-) Shame he likes horses, given the day job...
Hi, Ann. For some reason, this snippet feels to me like part of Holly Lisle's Fire in the Mist. (I have no idea why.) :)
Cheers,
-TimK
Hi Ian, Yeah, I had the same thought. :)
Hi Tim, I think Holly's an awesome writer, so thanks (not sure why it feels that way either).
Have a great weekend.
Ann, this was NOT long enough.
Sorry Susan- I ran out of words. Will work on more for next week. :)
I agree with Susan! Looking forward to more, so get busy writing!
Hi Joely, don't worry, I've spent the evening writing away. :)
Yes, this was entirely too short! :-P
I like the characters a lot, and the story sounds interesting...
~Jen
I agree, too short! But as I point a finger at you, four more point back at me. My snippet is not so long this week either.
Lol, Ian, that's true.
So whyw does Adhara expect there'll be trouble if Selene and that handsome young rider fall in love?
Hi Jen, glad you liked it, now I'll have to go work on next week's snippet. :)
Hi Cheryl- glad you dropped by, I'll go check out your post this evening.
Hi Gabriele- he's trouble, and she's got a crush. :)
the sense that this encounter is very significant to all three characters comes across very clear and boy would i turn the page!
Hi Joy- I was hoping that would come through but not be over done. Glad you liked it.
