Novella News

It's finished!!It's finished!! I did it!!! Thanks to two days off, I have finished my novella. I managed to write sixty pages, IN TWO DAYS!!! Now all i have to do is fill in one final, minor chink go through two editing rereads (to make sure i catch any glaring mistakes-like describing our blue eyed boy as having friendly hound brown eyes- and to make sure it doesn't suck) and then it is off to be converted into a PDF file and then off to be downloaded. There will be links posted here and at Paperback Writer, along with links to all of the other works that people have entered into her challenge. It has been a very interesting experience and i definitely plan to participate next year as well. TTFN, ann
P.S. I 've already tried to post this once, maybe i'll have better luck this time.
P.S. that whole 60 pages in two days was a surreal, exciting, but most likely unrepeatable experience. But we can hope.

Anniversary (of sorts)

Looked at the calendar today and after a little research realized that Tuesday was the 20th anniversary of my father’s death. It is official: half of my life has been lived without him. I don’t talk about him much, and I must admit there are probably days that I don’t think about him much, but there is never a time when I deny his influence he had on my life. And some of those influences were in unexpected ways, I suspect at least. There were times, during the last years of his life, when I felt profoundly uncomfortable around him. But I am not the same person I was back then, I have changed and grown, and I suspect that our relationship might have changed and grown, given the chance. That chance was taken from me when he died, and that is what I miss the most.

Ebook Title Page

Well, hell. I'm trying to post the title page of my ebook, but it won't go. I guess I'll have to send it through the pdf converter. I will also be posting some of my creative writing to test out the pdf converter (as soon as they email me the results). I hope to have the ebook up by Haloween. Wish me luck.

Contest Results (or not)

Well nobody responded to my pick the title of my novella contest, so I'm going to pick my own title (nanny nanny boo boo). The title I chose is The Familiar's Witch. I'll post the mockup of the title page either later on today or Monday. Things are rather busy here. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy weekend. Ann
P.S. Isn't this weather great (Okay, except for Buffalo and their 2 feet of white stuff). Not too cold during the day, and perfect sleeping weather at night, even with a window open. Now all I have to do is bring Fergil the Ficus in and I'll be ready for winter. Yeah!

Ebook Challenge update

As you might all know, I am hoping to have a novella completed in time to participate in Paperback Writer’s ebook challenge. And PBW’s blog today was all about which font to use for text and for title: serif or sanserif, TNR (Times New Roman) or another font which may or may not show up on other computers. I thought I might try making a mock up of my title page. But that would require me to have thought up a title. And as I’m rather swamped at work (post vacation overload plus two positions that need to be filled before we all collapse in exhaustion), and have the attention span of a flea, I haven’t given titles much thought. So I though I would post a few options, and let you vote to see which title you prefer. And for an added incentive, I will draw one name from the list and you will win a surprise prize (and I can leave it on your desk next week- just kidding-I’ll mail it to you if you work beyond walking distance). This prize is open to anyone brave enough to read my blogs. Just post your choice by Friday October 13, 2006 midnight. And the choices are:

1) The Sleeping Beauty Curse-
2) Shifters and Witches and Weres, Oh My
3) The Familiar’s Witch
4) The Witch’s Garden
5) Suggest one of your own (this one is basically for you Deborah- I hope you’re feeling better)

Thanks in advance, Ann

P.S. It might take me a few days to do the drawing, I have a program on Saturday and interviews on Monday.

I'm Back!

I’m back from Ireland, where we all had a grand old time. We did a lot of driving around the countryside (okay, my brother-in-law did the driving- we just reminded him to stay on the left hand side of the road) and saw a lot. There’s still so much that we didn’t get to see, and I would love to go back and spend more time there. Dublin is a great city to visit, we walked all over the city, and the sight-seeing buses are a great way to see a lot of the city. We went to Trinity College and saw the Book of Kells, and their library’s long hall (which was a thrill all on its own). My other favorite place was Donegal up on the northwest coast. I even managed to get some writing done and read a couple good books: Ursula K LeGuin’s The Left Hand of Darkness, J.R. Ward’s Lover Awakened, Tanya Huff’s Smoke and Shadows, and Michelle Sagara’s Cast in Courtlight. Now that I’m back and slowly getting caught up at work, I’ll try to post entries more regularly. I’m sure the five of you are happy to hear it. I will try, but you know what they say- the road to my house is paved with good intentions. ;o)
